Modelled old-growth forest boundaries.
dataset:
OG100
This layer contains identified areas of modelled old-growth forest derived from both vector and grid based analysis. Areas
delineated as old growth forest are identified to meet the Victorian definition of old-growth forest based on a set of modelling
criteria, rules and input datasets. The data is not reliable at scales less than 1:100,000 (ie 1:25,000), not all old-growth
polygons have been confirmed by field checking and the reliability of the modelled linework has not been verified.

Description
- Title
- Modelled old-growth forest boundaries.
- Alternate title
- OG100
- Purpose
- OG100 is a layer designed to store the major modelled output of old-growth forest studies for Victoria. Modelled areas of old-growth forest are used as a major input into the preparation of Regional Forest Agreements and Forest Management Planning and associated analysis.

- Supplemental Information
- Relationship to other Datasets: The old growth forest modelling process used to derive this layer uses key disturbance datasets, including GRAZE100, LOGHIST100, LOGHIST250, FIRE100_XY, AGCLEAR100 and mining layers, and vegetation attributes from the GSTAGE100, EVC100, SVEG100 layers. Current Design Issues: The old-growth modelling process is undertaken on a study areas basis with which each study applying different rules and inputs. It is possible that adjacent study areas within one tile may have edge matching problems. Future Design Issues: The current dataset does not assign an accuracy level to any polygon. This may need to be accomodated as areas of old-growth forest are increasingly verified in the field. Quality
Attribute Quality
- Comments
- A preliminary estimate of attribute accuracy would be: 90% for polygons GT 10 hectares 75% for polygons LT 10 hectares
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Precision: +/- 200 m Determination: Deductive estimate based on 30m grid cell size used and precision of historic disturbance datasets used.
Conceptual Consistency
- Comments
- The Old-growth forest modelling is based on a set of logic rules. All forest categories have therefore been determined consistently within each study area. Some logical anomalies may exist where the modeling has been unable to cope with exceptions to the logic rules. The data is not reliable at scales less than 1:100,000 (ie 1:25,000), not all old-growth polygons have been confirmed by field checking and the reliability of the modelled linework has not been verified.
Missing Data
- Comments
- Old Growth data from the East Gippsland, North East, Goldfields and Central Highlands studies have been completed. The Gippsland study area data will be available by January 1999. Old-growth forest data from the East Gippsland, North East, Central Highlands, Gippsland, Portland-Wimmera and Otways-Midlands studies have been completed. Data from the Gippsland ,Portland-Wimmera and Otways-Midlands studies will be incorporated into the library in September/October 2000.
