Vicmap Position - Global Positioning System (GPS) Base Stations.
dataset:
VICMAP_POSITION
Vicmap Position contains satellite correction information through a network of public access, high accuracy, Global Positioning
System (GPS) Base Stations. This information is accessible through GPSnet.
GPSnet is a satellite positioning service used to continuously record, store, validate and disseminate satellite correction
information through a network of public access, high accuracy, Global Positioning System (GPS) Base Stations. These base
stations are established in cooperation with industry partners and operate both locally and centrally from an array of sites
situated across the State.
Sites are established with a range of hosts including agencies and departments of local and state government, utility companies,
academic organisations, survey and mapping companies, and also include financial contribution from supporting participants.

Description

- Vicmap Position - Global Positioning System (GPS) Base Stations.
- Alternate title
- VICMAP_POSITION
- Purpose
- Any organisation or individual that requires quality, integrity and a degree of redundancy for correcting GPS raw signals, in real-time or post-processed mode, are potential users of GPSnet. Typical areas of application include surveying, mapping, navigation, precision farming, resource exploration, geotechnical analysis, deformation monitoring, asset capture, on land mining applications, and tracking environmental hazards.
- Supplemental Information
- History: Land Victoria's GPSnet base stations are established in partnership with industry and academia. The first station at Ballarat was publicly launched on 30th July 1996. Land Victoria plans to have 20 base stations located over Victoria when the network is complete. Currently there are 15 base stations operating. Relationship to other Datasets: VicMap Position is part of the State of Victoria's framework information and is related to other VGIS framework information Current Design Issues: RINEX data analysed hourly when base station is connected to Internet BBS data not avialable for hourly analysis Future Design Issues: Real-time stability monitoring Related Documents: None

- Use limitation
- Users are granted a licence to use data but this does not entitle the user to sell or trade the data in any form. GPSnet is operational 24/7/365, however access is restricted to authorised users by user name / password granted by signing a current licence agreement. Access to GPSnet data is available on the condition that users have a current GPSnet registration licence and registration document and that data would not be on-sold. Upon application, access to GPSnet data for education institutions and some members of the scientific and research community is available at no cost. A 24 hour free evaluation period is granted for new registered users. Data requested from the GPSnet archive or requiring intervention by the GPSnet manager would be at the current rate listed in the GPSnet Price Schedule in operation at the time. Access to GPSnet data is available on the condition that users have a current GPSnet registration licence and registration document and that data would not be on-sold.

- Statement
- Dataset Source: Land Victoria will provide raw satellite measurement data from the proposed 20 primary GPSnet base stations located across the state. Currently, 15 stations are in full operation. In the future it is envisaged that a number of strategically located supplementary, or secondary stations, are likely to provide approximately 30% additional network redundancy over the 20 primary stations. Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- GPSnet users are, by virtue of using a service that is an integral part of the state geodetic infrastructure, assured of achieving position accuracy's that are commensurate with this type of framework when appropriate equipment and techniques are used. For example typical geodetic survey accuracy using GPS: Horizontal accuracy 5mm + 1ppm (parts per million x line length) Vertical accuracy 15mm + 2ppm (parts per million x line length)
Conceptual Consistency
- Comments
- File naming convention: Continually Operating Reference Stations File Naming Convention (CORS)
Missing Data
- Comments
- 88% Complete - Statewide Completeness Verification: RINEX data analysed every hour Monthly plots produced
Excess Data
- Comments
- Raw GPS data is classified as COMPLETE if they contain CA, L1, L2 and D1 observations to all available satellites
