Description

Title
Salinity Management Plan Boundaries
Alternate title
SMP250
Purpose
This dataset identifies the Salinity Management Plan boundaries. The definition of these administrative / cultural boundaries was required to define the jurisdiction of each plan. The boundaries can be used to subset other natural resource datasets. Some plan boundaries are likely to require ammendment.

Supplemental Information
Relationship to other Datasets: The internal boundaries were largely derived from drainage basin and catchment boundaries but in some instances were modified using a combination of historial and existing administarative boundaries (parish and departmental) and some man made and natural features. Contention exists over the placement of some boundaries particularly where two or more plans enclose areas that are not currently administered under a plan. Consequently a review of this layer is likely to be required in the near future. This layer is known to be faulty in minor detail. Peripheral boundaries, that is the external state boundary are derived from HYDRO100 and LANDMMT100. Current Design Issues: The layer design identifies each Salinity Management Plan individually and must allow dating of most recent ammendment of boundaries. Future Design Issues: Propose inclusion of this layer in the l100 library series after contentious boundary issues are resolved and those boundaries derived from sub-catchment are enhanced by utilising high resolution digital elevation models. Statement
Dataset Source: The boundaries were largely sourced from a combination of 1:100,000 layers (see summary of relationship to other layers). However in some circumstances (ie. sub-catchment boundaries) lines have been placed according to local knowledge and hence may be inaccurate at 1:100,000. Additionally because of contention over the placement of some boundaries it is considered at this time most appropriate for inclusion in the l500 library series. Dataset Originality: Primary
