- Description
- +/- 10cm vertical accuracy LiDAR derived DTM products were produced from the LiDAR data. The project also includes the supply of merged DTM tiles with surrounding, existing, LiDAR DTMs from previous DEPI projects. ESRI ASCII Grids were derived using the Natural Neighbor interpolation. This method uses the closest triangles and applies weights to the proportionate areas from the grid cell centroid to interpolate the value. It uses known elevation data, it does not make any predictions regarding the surface and accurately depicts existing troughs and peaks in the data and supports irregular point spacing, which suits the nature LiDAR data. LEVELLING AND MERGING OF NEW AND EXISTING DTMS Comparisons and adjustments were undertaken on LiDAR point LAS data to produce a seamless dataset for DTM generation. This process used a 50m overlap between the datasets to be merged together. The DTM was generated with 2km buffer of LIDAR point LAS data around the tiles that contained the join to ensure the data would be contiguous with the current and previous datasets. Comparison by volumetric computation were undertaken to compare the data from the Geelong North - Anakie survey to previous projects which overlap the current project. These projects were 2009-10 North West LiDAR Augmentation Project, 2011-12 Melbourne & Surrounds Forest Structure LiDAR project and 2011-12 Floodplains LiDAR Stage 2 ¿ Corangamite. Ground data in this volume was compared to 25 test areas of DTM within the area of overlap with the adjacent projects. The test areas were distributed across the overlap of the project areas and located on open clear ground. The Geelong North and Anakie project data was adjusted by -0.05m. The LiDAR point LAS data was reclassified within the 50 m overlap area to produce a seamlessground surface classification. The DTM was generated with 2 km buffer of LIDAR point LAS data around the tiles that contained the join to ensure the data would be contiguous.
