Marine and Coastal Biotope Records Points
dataset:
MARINE_BIOTOPE_ATLAS_POINT
This layer contains divisions of Victorian biounits as classified to CBICs Level 4 biotope complexes as points. At this level
of the hierarchy, biotopes are grouped into sets with similar physical and biological characteristics.

- Dataset Source: This layer was produced using towed video biotope survey locations across Victoria. Marine biotopes describe a community of species in a defined abiotic habitat. Biotopes embody the concept that biological communities are controlled by the physicochemical components of their habitat. As such, a biotope class has a fundamentally different descriptive structure to classes historically used. Biotopes comprise and shape biounits, the broader level of categorisation for the marine environment. Dataset Originality: Derived
