Historic sites (line features)

dataset: HIST100_LINE
Records about historic linear features on Victorian public land, collected as a result of field survey by NRE staff and contractors. Some data updated during Old Growth Forest survey and modelling up to 20210 Primarily updated in 2018-2019 as part of the RFA Review Contains, water races, channels tramlines and other linear historic features, forestry or minig mainly Some line features 1:100k others are from VICMAP HYDRO/ROAD UFID - unique feature identifier added Jan 2023

Supplemental Information
Relationship to other Datasets: The HIST100_POINT contains historical data of point structure, where a discreet point is good enough to represent the feature. Current Design Issues: The data is stored as lines based on field survey by the Departments Historic Places section. Current records were plotted onto 1:100,000 mapsheets and subsequently digitised as part of the Central Highlands Old-Growth Forest Study. Additional data updated in 2018-2019 as part of RFA 2020 review Some data copied from VICMAP layers Future Design Issues: This layer may have to be expanded at a later stage to incorporate polygon features which currently have not been collected. There are also a number of linear features in the present Historic Places database for which there is only a single AMG coordinate or a start/end AMG coordinate. In the future, these records will have to be digitised. Related Documents: None

Statement
Dataset Source: Collected originally as part of the Central Highlands oldgrowth project. Updatd with RFA2020 review in 2018-19 Some 1:100k base maps, others VICMAP source updateds in VSDL Oct 2021 Dataset Originality: Primary
Description
Collection Method: Research and field survey. Most ground-truthed (GT).Some which are known to exist, have not had their AMGs pin-pointed by GT.Linear features were based on field survey by Historic Places. Features were plotted onto 1:100,000 mapsheets and digitised.
Description
Updated linework 2018-2019 water races and channel for mining area. Tramways locations are mainly 1:100k or worse accuracy. This should be a focus, LRSA - Light Rail Sociiety Australia - Vic have some better maps that should replace tramways data

Precision: Generally accurate to 1:100,000, tramways but those sites which have been ground truthed may be accurate at a larger scale 1:25000 from VICMAP source - water/road features Determination: Estimation only.
