Native Vegetation - Modelled 1750 Ecological Vegetation Classes
dataset:
NV1750_EVC
This layer represents the modelled extent of Ecological Vegetation Classes in 1750 (EVC's as described by Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Division) at scales ranging from 1:25,000 to 1:100,000
It is the master EVC dataset from which NV1750_EVCBCS and NV2005_EVCBCS are derived.

Description
- Title
- Native Vegetation - Modelled 1750 Ecological Vegetation Classes
- Alternate title
- NV1750_EVC
- Purpose
- This layer is the master vegetation typology dataset. This dataset will be maintained and improved over time. It includes attributes that describe the projects for which the spatial data was collected and information relating to the last polygon edit. (It does NOT include bioregion boundaries or bioregional conservation status or geographic occurrence) It is assumed that most users of vegetation data will use one or both of the derived vegetation datasets - NV1750_EVCBCS and NV2005_EVCBCS. These datasets include EVCs, Bioregion-EVCs (the vegetation unit associated with benchmarks) bioregional conservation status and geographic occurrence . However they do NOT include any data capture history.

- Supplemental Information
- History: Note: This layer is a copy of EVC1750_CMP as at November 2007, which is intended to be decommissioned in July 2008. It fully replaces EVC1750_CMP. Relationship to other Datasets: This layer is essentially the same as the now (Dec 2007) obsolete EVC1750_CMP dataset This dataset is part of a series of native vegetation datasets, which have the following naming convention - NV{year}-ATTRIBUTE(s): NV1750_EVC - Mapped pre 1750 ecological vegetation classes (EVCs) distribution NV1750_EVCBCS - Mapped pre1750 EVC distribution with Bioregional Conservation Status derived from NV1750_EVC and VBIOREGION100 and depletion statistics, also contains pre1750 geographic occurrence of EVCs NV2005_EVCBCS - Extant EVC distribution with Bioregional Conservation Status derived from NV1750_EVCBCS and NV2005_EXTENT , also contains pre1750 geographic occurrence NV2005_EXTENT - Modelled extent of native vegetation (very broad categories) NV2005_QUAL - Modelled Native Vegetation Quality - includes modelled site condition and patch-based landscape context Current Design Issues: A comprehensive listing of ecological vegetation classes that covers the entire State has only recently been developed. This work is being progressively refined as flora and fauna surveys are performed or reviewed. (2004)The layer design has been revised to accommodate new floristic community naming protocols developed by Mr Bill Peel, formerly of DSE. These replace the protocols developed to accommodate Box-Ironbark forest vegetation. The data structure allows for mosaics that consist of more than one EVC in a given map unit. (Dec 2007) This dataset was renamed from EVC1750_CMP, and a series of attributes REL_* were removed as these were never populated. Also a number of items were renamed to better express their intent - EVC_DASH to EVCFC_DASH;EVC_QUAL to EVCFC_UNIT; and FC to EVCFC Future Design Issues: (Dec 2007)Overtime the accuracy of both spatial and attribute information will be improved, the objective being to have accurate data to 1:25,000 across the state. - Description
- (Dec 2007) This dataset was initiated from EVC1750_CMP (now considered obsolete). The data was copied and some items dropped and others modified (name only). This was a once only process.

Quality
Attribute Quality
- Comments
- Based on attribute checking procedures: 1. polygons GT 4ha:an error of 1 in 50 ( approximately 98% accuracy ). 2. polygons LT 4ha: an error of 1 in 20 ( approximately 95% accuracy )
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- The SCALE item specifies the data capture scale which varies from 1:25,000 to 1:100,000
Conceptual Consistency
- Comments
- There is a many to one relationship between the redefined item EVCFC (floristic community) and EVC item (ecological vegetation class). This relationship is expressed in the lookup table EVC_FC.LUT.
Missing Data
- Comments
- As of March 1998 the dataset covers EVC mapping for the Central Highlands RFA area, East Gippsland RFA area and North-East RFA area. As of August 2004 the dataset covers 100% of the state. EVC mapping is based on information obtained from the Central Highlands, East Gippsland, North-East, Gippsland and Western Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) projects, Goulburn catchment planning, Mallee vegetation mapping (2004), North-east, Otways-Midlands, Portland-Wimmera Old Growth Forest studies, and Port Phillip and Westernport EVC Mapping projects. The data update of December 2007 incorporates revisions of EVC mapping of the active floodplain of the major northern and north-eastern river systems as part of the VEAC River Red Gum Forests Investigation and the mapping of the treeless alpine vegetation complex to EVC level. It also includes an improved delineation of grassland versus woodland EVCs
Excess Data
- Comments
- EVC Typology as per the EVC Look up table EVCFC Typology - Floristic Communities are inconsistently identified, however the data is retained in the dataset with the intent of reviewing this classification - post-2007. EVC Study (broad data collection project) as per EVC_STUDY Look Up Table EVC Source (changes to EVC assignment) as per EVC_SRC Look Up Table
