Fire Severity Classes (Vexcel) for East Victoria Fire 2006-07 for Boulder Ck, Dergholm & part Little Desert part only.
dataset:
FIRE_SEV07AP
This map is derived from a screen based interpretation and mapping of aerial imagery into fire severity
classes using Vexcel imagery. The classes represent levels of fire burn and scorch activity in the eucalypt and non-eucalypt
forest, understorey and treeless areas. The classification was validated using field check sites. An accuracy assessment
has not been carried out. Fire severity for Boulder Creek, Dergholm and central area of Little Desert (Brooks) mapped using
this methodology.

Description
- Title
- Fire Severity Classes (Vexcel) for East Victoria Fire 2006-07 for Boulder Ck, Dergholm & part Little Desert part only.
- Alternate title
- FIRE_SEV07AP
- Purpose
- The interpretation and mapping of fire severity for the 2006-07 map series used the Vexcel 'UltraCam' Digital Aerial Camera data. Data was captured over 4 bands in the electromagnetic spectrum. Three of the bands were in the visible range while the fourth was in the near infra-red range. The camera system delivers precise geometric imagery that is then orthorectified using the Vicmap digital elevation model version 1.2. The final image resolution or pixel size was 35 cm. For Departmental staff this information is available on SII's image web server.

- Dataset Source: This map is derived from a screen based interpretation and mapping of aerial imagery into fire severity classes using Vexcel imagery. The classes represent levels of fire burn and scorch activity in the eucalypt and non-eucalypt forest, understorey and treeless areas. The classification was validated using field check sites. An accuracy assessment has not been carried out. The interpretation and mapping of imagery was carried out at a screen scale of 1:7000. This scale enables rapid and representative mapping of broad fire severity classes. This classification is to be used as a guide only for fire severity as some areas may be incorrectly classified. This enhanced colour infrared image map displays the digital Vexcel bands 3, 4 and 2 as Red, Green and Blue. This stretch contrasts burn and scorch activity in the forested and treeless areas.
