Victorian Railway Corridors
dataset:
VIC_RAILWAY_CORRIDOR
This polyline dataset represents the centreline of operational rail corridors in Victoria. The data includes VicTrack owned
corridors and spurs into privately owned freight facilities. The data may also include any "under construction" corridors.
The data does not include Tourist/Heritage Railways.
The data includes attributes which identify if the corridors are used by Metro (MTM) services, V/Line services, freight services
and interstate services. The attributes also identify the presence of broad, standard and dual guage tracks in the corridor
and the presence of electrification in the corridor.

- Supplemental Information
- History: The data is based in part on historic railway data maintained by the Department of Transport (DoT) Current Design Issues: The corridor dataset is a simplification of the rail network. Some rail corridor contain a single track and other corridors contain multiple parallel tracks. In areas where the rail network is dense, such as around the ports precinct, representing the precinct as a corridor is not a true representation of the network. The data includes all major active railway corridors as advised by rail experts in the department. However, the status of some freight corridors may change. There are some sections of the rail network which are referred to as under "minimum maintenance" and may be used irregularly. The amount of rail activity on some freight corridors is seasonal and will depend on the agricultural harvest. Related Documents: None
